Covid 19 Information For Military Families

The housing office should be one of your first stops when you arrive at Fort Riley. This office provides relocation services and information and support to soldiers and families as they move to their new post.

For families and higher ranks, you can contact the Corvias Rental and Relocation Center at 1 (785) 717-2258 to check the availability of privatized military housing for your rank and family size.

Each community center has staff offices, a club room, a media room, a fitness center, a game room, locker rooms, meeting rooms and an outdoor pool. Use of the community center facilities and pools is free for families, regardless of where you live.

Fort Riley Military Family Housing in Corvia has five communities with single-family, two-story, townhome and condo-style floor plans that range from two to five bedrooms. Pet-friendly rooms are also available. The neighborhood has a variety of amenities such as community centers, swimming pools, fitness centers, playgrounds and recreational trails.

Guards perform 100% ID checks at all gates. All visitors must have a valid military ID or access the Visitor Control Center. Information about permits and admission requirements can be found here.

All Soldiers in processing must register with 1st Replacement Company (except the following units: MEDDAC, DENTAC, CID, and Mobilized Reservists) and sign up through the Personnel Service Office located at 208 Custer Avenue (Main Post Office). Enter the back of the building and go to the basement of the Central Processing Center. The office is open 24/7. Uniforms are available during OCP business hours (0800-1700 Monday to Friday).

Soldiers should contact their unit or sponsor for specific instructions or policies. If you arrive at AIT and need help contacting a sponsor, please call 1 (785) 340-2875 or 1 (785) 239-5739.

Sergeants First Class and above may check in on their own schedule, while Staff Sergeants and below are placed with Platoon 1 Replacement Barracks for processing. Individual soldiers or geographic bachelors are placed in barracks for processing.

Gordon's Stop Light - To say Gordon's Stoplight Drive-In is a Jefferson County favorite would be an understatement. A landmark is more like it. The old-fashioned restaurant that calls Crystal City home is more than your average greasy spoon. Since 1948, the restaurant is known for its thin Smashburger made on an open grill and handmade real shakes with double ice cream, served on the side. In fact, the burgers are so tasty that the Travel Channel named them the best in the state.

Gordon Haddell owned the restaurant for nearly fifty years before selling it to Lori and Kurt Gross in 1997. Lori was Gordon's neighbor. Chris Gross, Lor and Kurt's son, is also a co-owner. Gordon taught them everything he knew to run a successful business.

"He said, 'Stick with what works and you'll be successful,'" Chris says. “We added chicken and bacon sandwiches to the menu. This is all I have done in twenty-three years. If we change anything around here, people will be upset."

Breakfast is served from 10:30 Monday to Saturday.

The menu is on the right wall above the grill. Not a lot of variety, but variety isn't why you come to this place. It's a local burger, not a fancy burger, just a plain American burger. They also have chili. Mostly though it's about the burger.

The grill master had just removed his hot top and the head fryer dropped a handful of rings into the fry basket. When the fryer is done and the grilled meatballs are cooked and ready, the fry guy assembles the buns and toppings on the ceramic plates. The young woman took care of many trips. There is a side window for those too shy or too scantily clad to go through the front door.

I looked around and saw the ATM. One of those third-party machines that charges an arm and a leg. Gordon does not carry plastic. We knew this and were prepared, stopping on the way.

The grill makes quick work of the burgers, they're thin and hand-packed, giving them a hard, tough look. You won't get a perfectly pressed, perfectly round burger here. I like it better that way.

Soon the lady brought our table. He asked if we wanted anything else. Adam said "No thanks" before I could answer.

"Go for Green 2.0 is a program to label all of our menu items and develop a choice architecture to help soldiers eat healthier foods," said Nicole Curtis, chief of nutrition at Irvine Hospital.

Every prescription prepared and submitted to DFAC is processed by a computer program. The result is a breakdown of each ingredient and preparation method to determine how healthy the recipe is. Then it is divided into green, yellow, or red.

The label will help ease the decision-making process for soldiers who want to eat healthy foods but may not have the nutritional knowledge to know what to choose. For example, if a dish contains vegetables, this does not mean that it automatically falls into the green list.

Gordon Military College - The military memorial was presented on Saturday, April 18, 2015, on the campus of Gordon State College to a crowd of more than 250 alumni, family and friends.

In 1907 the name of the Gordon Institute was officially changed to Gordon College. In 1916 the US War Department designated Gordon College as a small army unit, and during World War I (1917-18), 450 Gordon alumni served, 160 of them as commissioned officers. Gordon was killed by eighteen people during the First World War.

In 1928, Gordon added the first two years of college to his schedule and five years later it was named an honorary military school. Another advantage of this call was that the cadet, after completing the course work of the junior college department, could enter the army with the rank of commissioned officer. In 1933 the state of Georgia donated the former Georgia Business College campus to Gordon College. The High School and Junior College departments moved to the new campus, while the Primary School moved to the former High School building. From the mid-1930s until 1972, Gordon College was informally known as Gordon Military College.

Many Gordon alumni served in Europe and the Pacific during World War II (1941–45). After World War II, Gordon Military College experienced an increase in student enrollment that required the addition of five new buildings, including two dormitories. However, with no endowment or government funding and increased competition for student enrollment, the school began to experience financial problems in the 1960s. A fund-raiser for the Gordon Military College raised $70,000, but it was not enough to pay the college's $1.8 million debt; Ministers approached the government in 1970 about making the college part of the university system. The Board of Regents liked it, and on July 2, 1972, Gordon Military College became part of the University of Georgia System as Gordon Junior College. After joining the university system with 425 students and no endowment, Gordon College has grown to 3,703 students and an endowment of nearly $7 million since 2007.

In 1986 the "Junior" was dropped from the school name. In 2007, Gordon became a four-year state college with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, and in 2012 it was renamed Gordon State College.

The student body — more than 5,000 students enrolled as of 2011 — comes primarily from Lamar County and surrounding areas, but also draws people from across the country and the world. Most students begin at Gordon immediately after high school, but a growing percentage of students are adults who have decided to return to school, contributing their diverse experiences to a diverse student body.

Gordon's two strengths are nursing and prepharmacy. In 2002, Gordon College led the state's two-year nursing programs with a 100 percent pass rate on the national licensure exam. Gordon offers associate degree programs and several undergraduate programs, including biology, education, English, history, mathematics, and nursing.

Notable alumni of Gordon College include US Senator Richard B. Russell Jr.; Rufus C. Harris, President of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana; and Prentice Miller, Emory University Dean of Students.
